The Challenges of Being a Professional Dancer
Being a professional dancer can sure be a lot of fun but it comes with some problems. Lots of dancers face these problems but they can all be solved easily and quickly.
The first problem is that when dancers compete at competitions they want to do well. Some dancers take this too far and overstress themselves. They feel that they need to win and be successful to make their teachers proud and exceed expectations. This problem can easily be solved by teachers not putting so much pressure on their students to win and to not compare them to their previous performances or others performances.
Another issue is that some dancers feel like they aren’t good enough and they have low confidence and self-esteem levels. This problem could be caused by some teachers comparing their students and they don’t stop putting one down while lifting others up. This problem could be solved if teachers simply stop comparing their students to each other. Or, they could try to boost the student’s confidence levels more equally.
One last problem is that professional dancers are constantly being too hard on themselves about their bodies’ and weight and this can cause serious food disorders, like not eating enough food. This can also happen when professional dancers don’t get jobs for a certain reason but they blame it on their bodies and then start fasting at unhealthy levels. (Fasting is when you skip meals everyday) This can be solved by dancers learning to accept themselves and not be self conscious.
An example of all of these issues is the famous reality TV show, “Dance Moms”. The best example from the show is the comparing issue. Characters would constantly be compared to one another and make the person who is being compared to feel sad and depressed. These are all very serious issues and nobody should ever feel that way about themselves.
In conclusion, sometimes there can be some issues in dance that might not be the best but they can be solved with a growth mindset.
